July – December 2022, 6 Course Dates, 1 time per month
9 am – 12 pm: Morning Session
12 pm – 1 pm: Lunch Break (lunch included in the course price)
1 pm – 4 pm: Afternoon Session
Total of 36 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction. Includes lunch and discounts in the store and at our vacation rentals.
$1200 per student, max of 8 students. Led by hyper experienced Texas Honey Queen, Marie Yanchak, and assisted by our beekeeping and honey packing staff.
Allowed 1 flex-day that can be made up in the following stewardship course.
July 28: Orientation day. General beekeeping, including summer feed ratio, dearth queen behavior
August 25: Mite damage (check Italian colonies), mite treatments, SHB, moths, causes of bee loss
September 29: Queen prep for the winter, general health of the hive, robbing prevention, fall queen production and drone population
October 27: Hive prep for winter, check feed stores population, combine hives as needed
November 17: Honey packing, products, infusions. How to feed bees in winter – why/how/when
December 15: Beeswax, balms and candles. Holiday craft and end of course celebration.
